1. According to the installation positions, the electromagnetic stirrers are devided to Mold electromagnetic stirrer(E-EMS); Strand electromagnetic stirrer(SEMS); Final electromagnetic stirrier(FEMS).

2. Strand electromagnetic stirrer (S-EMS): stirrer is mounted outside of strand. Single-side traveling wave magnet field stirrers are normally used as S-EMS for billet that is mounted at one side of inner bow. However, some are with rotary magnet field type. Double-side or single- side traveling wave magnet field are normally used as S-EMS for slabs, which are erected in the inner and outer bow of strand respectively.
